As one of the only nations on the planet to recognize same-sex marriages, Canada is as logical a destination as any for the GLBT tourist; and with one of the largest gay neighbourhoods in the world, Montreal is the icing on the cake!
The Village–or “le Village”–is ground zero to Montreal’s gay scene. Innumerable restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and cafes dot the vicinity with their characteristic flair, and even the local metro stop is decked out in rainbow pizzazz. Sainte-Catherine Street is the Village’s main thoroughfare and the backbone of its activity, with a diverse and ample array of establishments along and on either side of it. Gay-friendly venues are also to be found slightly farther afield, as in the city’s downtown area, for instance.

Travelers will be delighted to learn that a variety of gay-owned-and-operated guesthouses offer affordable lodging within walking distance of the city’s major attractions. Visitors may also be interested in learning that regulations in Canada are rather more liberal than our own, which may make your night at the corner strip joint a bit more exciting than expected.

Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the mountains, Vancouver is a vibrant city of majestic sights, interesting sounds, and a kaleidoscope of faces. Located in lovely British Columbia on Canada’s west coast, Vancouver is home to two of Canada’s most active gay communities.

The focus I want to bring to your attention is about a place similar to Toronto’s Church & Wellesley district except it has the key ingredients of Vancouver and a dash of gay-friendly bars, accommodations, and a thriving nightlife added to it. I’m talking about the über fabulous Davie Village.
Its here you’ll find great places such as the beautiful Oasis Ultra Lounge. With over 200 different martinis, The Oasis Pub will quench even the fiercest thirst
The Oasis Pub bills itself as an “ultra lounge and tapas bar” with differently themed nights and DJs weekends. Relax in comfortable lounge chairs on the Oasis’ heated patio, and savour the tastes of their extensive and tantalizing menu.
If that’s not your forte, you can also try a place with a proven track record. When asked how to describe this place I was told in one breathe…”um, its Vancouver’s longest running gay club sweetie.” If that doesn’t sound good enough for you-you may want to try a venue that caters to the low key crowd like the newly renovated Majestic Restaurant & Lounge. They a have the perfect balance of dance, lounge, and drinking crowd that gets together Wednesday to Sunday!

Whether you’re single or committed or old fashioned to the all work no play Joe – everyone enjoys a fun night out in the town. From my years of travel and days/nights of partying, these spots came highly recommended and have become my personal favourites. Depending on your mood, each spot would surely satisfy your inner wild side!

Fly Nightclub – hosts the best dance parties and DJ’s in Toronto. Tucked off Yonge st., just North of Wellesley, it draws crowds of the friendliest people in town. Not to mention its ten thousand square feet space – there is more than enough room to dance and mingle until 7 am! Relaxed dress code and cheap drinks make this the best party in town.

Odyssey Night Cub – has been the number 1 gay club in Vancouver for 22 yrs. It raves of the best dance events and drag show in the city. Its spacious venue with an outdoor patio means more go go dancers for your viewing pleasure. Cheap drinks and male dancers = fun times!

Unity Club – voted Gay/Lesbian club of the year in 2006 and 2007 in Montreal. It holds true to its reputation by its line up of entertainers and DJ’s. Crowds are diverse and energetic. Frankly it should be open later than 2pm! Nonetheless, you want a great time in Montreal, Unity is definitely the place to be.
